Tafsir Ibn Kathir in French is a complete 10-volume hardcover set of Ibn Kathir's classical Quranic commentary, translated into French for French-speaking readers. This edition is an abridged translation based on Al-Misbah al-Munir fi Tahdhib Tafsir Ibn Kathir, the well-known Arabic condensation of the original tafsir, published by Darussalam.
About This Tafsir
Ibn Kathir's tafsir is one of the most widely used classical Quran commentaries, valued for interpreting the Quran primarily through other Quranic verses, authentic hadith, and the statements of the Sahabah (companions) — an approach known as tafsir bil-ma'thur. This French edition brings that same methodology to readers who may not have access to the original Arabic or an English translation, condensed via Al-Misbah al-Munir so the core rulings, narrations and explanations remain intact without the full length of the unabridged original.
About the Author
Hafiz Ibn Kathir (Isma'il ibn 'Umar ibn Kathir, d. 774 AH / 1373 CE) was a Damascus-based scholar of hadith, history and Quranic exegesis, and a student of Ibn Taymiyyah. Alongside his tafsir, he is known for Al-Bidayah wa'n-Nihayah, a major work of Islamic history. His tafsir remains one of the most consulted classical commentaries across the Muslim world, and has been translated into numerous languages, including this French edition.
